Karen Cole

Shortly after graduating college with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Paralegal Studies over 25 years ago, I worked as a Deputy Clerk of Court for the Maine Judicial Branch. I saw firsthand how overwhelming and intimidating the legal system can feel. Many people arrived at the court unsure of what forms they needed, what steps to take, or what to expect in a hearing. While I was not able to provide legal advice - and still cannot - I was able to guide them through the process, help them understand the required paperwork, and offer clarity during what was often a very stressful time.

I later transitioned into private law firms where I worked closely with clients navigating a wide range of legal matters. I saw how common it is for people to feel nervous, unsure, or uncomfortable working with attorneys. The legal process can feel confusing and overwhelming, and when you’re already under emotional and financial stress, it can quickly become too much to navigate alone.

In my opinion, the system is missing an in-between person to support clients in their legal journeys. I can provide support and advocate for you. I can also help clarify the legal process - including how to make sense of court forms - in the comfort of your own home, at a time that works with your schedule. I take away as much stress and confusion as possible.

While hiring a lawyer is not mandatory, I believe many (if not most) divorces benefit from retaining an attorney, or at the very least, consulting with one. If we begin working together before you have legal representation, I will guide you toward seeking appropriate legal counsel when your questions or needs fall outside the scope of my services. If your divorce is straightforward and uncontested, I can identify the paperwork that you need to file with the court to begin the process without hiring an attorney.

Think of me as your central point of support. In addition to coaching, I can connect you with a trusted network of attorneys, financial professionals, and therapists so you will have the right people around you (and your children, if you are the parent of one or more minors) at the right time.

In addition to divorce coaching, I provide contract paralegal services to attorneys and law firms throughout Maine. Drawing on my experience in litigation-intensive practice areas, I aim to provide dependable, high-quality support that allows attorneys to focus their time on practicing law, serving clients, and managing their cases efficiently.

I look forward to working with you.
